Morphing Essence

Buffalo Arts Studio

In Morphing Essence, my urban artistry unfolds through a fusion of gestural brush strokes and calligraphic markings, breathing life into a dynamic collection of smaller works inspired by the spirited energy of street art. This exhibition, which graced the gallery of Buffalo Arts Studios from October 6 to November 11, 2023, culminated in an engaging artist reception on Friday, October 27, from 5:00 to 8:00 pm. Open to the public, the showcase provided a nostalgic glimpse into the past where artistic expression converged with a shared appreciation for creativity.

In this series, I’ve meticulously crafted calligraffiti paintings on wood, employing vibrant iridescent paints to create a mesmerizing visual experience. The iridescent colors on a flat surface produce a subtle yet captivating morphing effect as light refracts. This project serves as a metaphor for adaptability during turbulent times, each color shift symbolizing the resilience required for change. I’ve evolved my artistic expression to encapsulate the allegory of change, capturing the personal and communal shifts that have captivated me in recent years.

Morphing Essence was made possible by the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of the Office of the Governor and the New York State Legislature. A special and heartfelt thank you to Buffalo Arts Studios, Arts Services of Western NY. And Aitina Fareed-Cooke for amazing photography.
